When you cast John Waters in your horror series, you made damn sure to put John Waters all over its promotion. Appropriately, FX has plastered John Waters all over its new trailer for American Horror Story: 13, the thirteenth season of the Ryan Murphy-produced horror anthology series. As confirmed by FX, Waters plays phlebotomist Mr. Phibes, whose name is meant to evoke the role immortalized by Vincent Price in Robert Fuest’s 1971 camp-horror classic, The Abominable Dr. Phibes. Coated in blood and cackling, Waters stands out among the series’ mighty cast, with Sarah Paulson’s Cordelia Goode returning alongside the chameleonic Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Leslie Grossman, Jessica Lange, and Gabourey Sidibe, who are joined by new additions Joey Pollari, Avantika, Alex Consani, Paul Anthony Kelly, and Madelaine Petsch. Indeed, this new AHS boasts a season-spanning reunion, with John Carroll Lynch and Mena Suvari reprising their roles as Twisty the Clown and Elizabeth Short, a.k.a. the Black Dahlia, respectively. It’s a horror-show love-in!
