André 3000 cannot escape Scooby-Doo

And, sure, you might be asking, “What the hell does André 3000 have to do with Scooby-Doo?” But that’s only because a) you’ve yet to learn in fuller detail about his involvement in Netflix’s Greg Berlanti-helmed live-action revival of the franchise, and b), you’ve totally forgotten about “Land Of A Million Drums,” the song he and Big Boi did, as OutKast, for the soundtrack of the 2002 Scooby-Doo movie. (A song whose major cultural effect in 2026 is to make the listener go “Wait, is that Killer Mike rapping about Scooby-Doo back in 2002?”) (Yes.) 

All of which is an admittedly long-winded way to note that Benjamin has just been formally cast in the new series, adding to a fairly eclectic acting resumé that’s seen him pop up in shows like American Crime, in Noah Baumbach’s White Noise adaptation, and in his own Cartoon Network series from the 2000s, Class Of 3000. He’ll be joining the Scooby show alongside veteran character actress Cathy Moriarty, who doesn’t have any credits on the soundtracks of any Scooby projects that we know about, but who does have a long track record spanning dozens of TV shows and films (including Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull, and a memorable turn as the baddie of the ’90s Casper movie). The duo joins a previously announced (and stacked) cast for the live-action project, which includes Paul Walter Hauser, Rusty Schwimmer, Peter Macon, Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté, Elysée Sanvillé, Alex Isles, Avery Kristen Pohl, Pamela Mitchell, Ross Kimball, Sara Gilbert, Wynn Everett, Sauriyan Sapkota, and Bruce McGill, plus Mckenna Grace, Tanner Hagen, Abby Ryder Fortson, and Maxwell Jenkins as new versions of Daphne, Shaggy, Velma, and Freddy.

Scooby-Doo: Origins is currently aimed at a 2027 release.
