Hot off the presses, it’s another special anniversary announcement. On this day in 2005, Nickelodeon premiered Avatar: The Last Airbender, the beloved animated series about a young boy with the power to “bend” all four elements. Since then, we’ve seen a (dubious) feature film adaptation, a spin-off, and a live-action Netflix show. Today, Avatar Studios adds to the list with a new-spin off series following a brand-new Avatar called Avatar: Seven Havens, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans have been curious about the history of past Avatars, but this one continues to move the timeline forward with the next incarnation. According to the synopsis (per THR), the series is “set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra — but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

When last we saw Korra, she had permanently altered the world by opening portals to the spirit realm, through which both people and spirits could freely pass. She had also permanently altered the existence of the Avatar by severing the connection to the Avatar cycle (which granted her, and the Avatars before her, access to the memories and guidance of her past lives). We’ll see just how much more the world has changed after Korra’s time, but it sounds like her actions weren’t super well received! According to THR, Seven Havens has been picked up for 26 episodes with two seasons (or “Books”) of 13 episodes each.

Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend Of Korra were created by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The duo were originally on board to adapt their own work for Netflix, but eventually left the project (which went on without them) and launched Avatar Studios at Nickelodeon instead. In 2022, it was announced that three new animated features set in the Avatar world were in the works. The first of these is an “adult Aang” animated film; Paramount announced last year that Eric Nam would voice the beloved hero, while Dave Bautista would play the villain. (Originally scheduled for October 2025, the film is now slated for January 2026, per THR.) Seven Havens is the first series announced by Avatar Studios. The show doesn’t yet have a release date.

“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” DiMartino and Konietzko said in a joint statement. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”
