Bad weather forces Lollapalooza to cut Lorde, Muse sets short

Lollapalooza was forced to cut itself short tonight, after severe weather in Chicago led organizers (and the city itself) to end a set from Muse after only three songs, and outright cancel a headlining performance from Lorde. The organizers pulled the plug for the night after heavy rain and lightning raised concerns about the safety of the festival’s attendees, which number in the hundreds of thousands every year.

Lorde seemed especially distressed, first taking the stage to tell fans in attendance in Grant Park that the show was canceled, and later hopping on Twitter to try to figure out some way to give her legion of loyal followers any kind of set.

Weather forecasts for the weekend suggest it shouldn’t storm on Friday or Saturday (when The Killers, Run The Jewels, and Chance The Rapper, among others, are all scheduled to perform), but Lollapalooza organizers haven’t announced yet how the weather will affect the rest of this year’s fest.
