Beck, Ariel Pink, and Giorgio Moroder creating new songs for a fancy train tour

Multimedia artist Doug Aitken will bring together dozens of musicians, visual artists, dancers, actors, and more for nine "happenings" across the country next month. Station To Station is a train tour that starts in New York and ends in San Francisco, with performances along the way at various train stations. Acts include Beck, Boredoms, Cat Power, Cold Cave, Giorgio Moroder, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Dan Deacon, No Age, and more.

To add to the eccentric fun of it all, Ariel Pink, Beck, and Moroder will be creating new songs exclusively for their respective happenings. Beck has already crafted his song for the Barstow, Ca. stop on Sept. 24. Moroder will record sounds from the moving train on his way to Winslow, Az., make an entire song out of them, and premiere the composition at the Sept. 21 show. And Ariel Pink is taking it a step further by living on the train and using it as a studio. He will also enlist the help of other artists along for the ride, creating "a modern song-cycle that speaks to our time." He'll be performing in New York City and Pittsburgh.

It seems a little overwhelming, but if Aitken can pull all of this off it might just be one of the coolest happenings to ever… happen. Tickets are available here, and there are videos, explanations, and blurbs about each city on Station to Station's website.
