When you think of Sweden, giant sand dunes are probably not the first image that comes to mind. But pop star Becky and the Birds might just change that with her new music video for “Should’ve known better (choices),” which The A.V. Club can exclusively debut this morning. The musician, aka Thea Gustafsson, shared the new track as the first single since her 2024 album Only Music Makes Me Cry Now. The track, like Gustafsson’s recent work, loops vocals and electronic production to arrive somewhere both nostalgic and ethereal. The new video taps into the same vibe, finding Gustafsson running up and rolling down a sand dune intercut with some 2000s, home movie-looking footage. The resulting work lingers and encourages you to think about your own “choices” long after it ends.

“We wanted to dial into the feeling of overthinking your decisions and not knowing if the choices you’ve made were for the better or worse,” directors Patricia Aliaga DeVall and Hedvig Moberg tell The A.V. Club. “It got us thinking about rewinding memories, fast forwarding memories, about parallel realities that could have been and how people affect your decisions – the ‘what ifs.'”

Describing the shoot as “serene, peaceful, and genuinely healing,” Gustafsson praised her directors as “not only incredibly talented, but also so kind, attentive, and supportive.” She adds, “It was such a beautiful day, and it meant the world to see everyone come together with so much heart to create this video. It’s a project I’m incredibly proud of.”  You can check out the video for “Should’ve known better (choices)” by Becky and the Birds below.
