Before co-creating Chappelle’s Show, Neal Brennan was All That’s worst writer
Neal Brennan makes no secret about breaking into sketch comedy via the Nickelodeon favorite All That: He discussed the gig briefly in a Reddit AMA, recounting the time the staff that brought you Good Burger and Pierre Escargot took the afternoon off to go to the gun range. (And then he joked about all the cocaine he didn’t do with Keenan Thompson.) Following his appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers yesterday, Brennan shared some further memories from his SNICK days, anecdotes largely revolving around him being the least funny among the writers to which this was the height of comedy. You gotta start somewhere, and apparently the comedic sensibility that helped inform Chappelle’s Show and Half Baked started out on the verge of being fired from All That.
