Another longtime CNN personality flees the Skydance ship

Just days after longtime CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour announced her exit from the news network after a widely respected 43-year tenure, another prominent CNN figure is stepping away. Bianna Golodryga, who joined CNN as a senior global affairs analyst and anchor in 2017, made the announcement via her Twitter/X account on Thursday, where she stated, “After nine wonderful years at CNN, I’ve decided to leave for an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. I’m grateful for the experiences, friendships and support from fabulous colleagues during my CNN years. Exciting news to share very soon!”

As yet, there’s no indication what Golodryga’s next job will be, but this marks the second unexpected, high-profile departure from CNN following its takeover by billionaire Donald Trump ally David Ellison as part of the Skydance-Warner Bros. merger. And while neither Amanpour nor Golodryga cited the impending potential CBS News-style editorial changes under Ellison in their farewell messages, reports from CNN state that employees are wary of the new ownership’s track record when it comes to meddling in the news. (Amanpour did repeat her reporting mantra, “Always be truthful, not neutral” in her memo to her colleagues.)

The Moldavian-born Golodryga has anchored CNN International’s One World alongside Zain Asher, formerly anchored Good Morning America and CBS This Morning, and serves as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Her decision to exit a Skydance-controlled CNN so soon after Amanpour raises more questions about how those inside the news network view their chances of remaining independent under their new right-leaning ownership’s influence.
