The star of Flyboys and Hole In One wants you to know that the news is safe in his hands. David Ellison, the billionaire son of Oracle founder Larry Ellison, the sixth richest man on Earth, is in the process of buying yet another media conglomerate, his second in less than a year. However, this time will be different. Last year, when jumping through the regulatory hoops to acquire Paramount, Ellison bent to the whims of Donald Trump’s FCC and made it abundantly clear that CBS would no longer conform to the liberal bias of fact-based news. Instead, after acquiring culture-war firestarter Bari Weiss’ reactionary centrist blog, The Free Press, for $150 million, he put the Weiss in charge of CBS News, where she blocked a report on American concentration camps and installed a head anchor who would have no qualms about saluting Marco Rubio. Now CBS unapologetically loves America, because fealty is exactly what you want to hear from an unbiased news source. But on the cusp of acquiring CNN, Ellison would like viewers to know, this time, things will be different.
