60 Minutes' Bill Whitaker says Bari Weiss told him to call her out "if" she interferes

This is all the subject of a new article published this morning in The New York Times, which gives a cursory glance at the program going into its new season. In the article, Bilton says that President Trump is still “One thousand percent” fair game for 60 Minutes scrutiny, and so is “everyone else in Washington, regardless of which side you’re on.” 

And that apparently comes with some assurances from Weiss that she won’t interfere with stories, something she’d been widely called out for during the previous season. Bill Whitaker, one of the correspondents who stuck around for this season, tells the Times that he spoke with Weiss about these concerns, and that she told him to “call her on it” if he noticed a problem. Apparently, she thought she was doing the right thing. “She said she didn’t see it as interference,” Whitaker tells the Times. “She thought she was being helpful. And if I don’t think she’s being helpful, and I see it as interference, that I should just call her on it. So we shall see.”  

See we shall. The article also mentions another thing we’ll have to wait and see about: The new closing segment of the program. Bilton declines to say what it is—just offering “You’re going to have to tune in for the new season”—but don’t be shocked if you see Stephen A. Smith or John McEnroe offering some folksy observations in the style of Andy Rooney.
