Peacock accepts mission: stream Black Bag
Introducing Endless Mode: A New Games & Anime Site from Paste

Peacock subscribers, report to HQ. In a recent interview ruminating on what Black Bag‘s meh box office meant for “the kind of film I made my career on,” Steven Soderbergh mused that “maybe two years from now people will go, ‘Oh, Black Bag – that was a hit!” Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to shorten that timeframe as much as possible.

Soderbergh’s suave, sexy spy thriller lands on the platform May 2. Starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett, the film follows an intelligence agent who essentially functions as a human polygraph (Fassbender), tasked with rooting out a mole in his organization. The only issue? One of the suspects is his wife (Blanchett). Other potential leaks include Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, and Regé-Jean Page, all of whom gather early on in the film for one of the most awkward dinner parties in recent movie memory.

It’s a fun, mid-budget film full of big stars that nevertheless couldn’t “seem to get people over the age of 25 years old to come out to theatres,” which Soderbergh thinks is “not a good thing for movies.” If you were one of the people who missed it the first time around, now’s your chance thanks to the ever-shortening theatrical window.

If you’re looking for a fun side quest, you can also take some time to swoon over Love Hurts, the February directorial debut from stunt designer Jonathan Eusebio, starring Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose. That film premieres on Peacock May 9.

This transmission will now self-destruct.
