Although at this point he ought to be eligible for at least a junior membership in the Illuminati, as far as The A.V. Club knows, Bruce Springsteen does not control the weather. (Internet searches on the matter have been inconclusive.) Still, he apparently feels bad about having to cancel his and the E Street Band’s show at Madison Square Garden due to Winter Storm Jonas, the snowstorm that dumped 30.5 inches of snow on JFK Airport and approximately 3.6 million posts from bored, snowbound New Yorkers on Facebook this past weekend.
To make up for the cancelation— or perhaps to mark the stunning reversal of fortune that saw New York have worse weather than Chicago in January—Springsteen has posted the complete audio from the band’s January 19 show at Chicago’s United Center as a free download. “Out here on E Street, we’re missing our fans at the Garden tonight and wanted to send this along,” the post on his website says. The show, which clocks in at three hours and 17 minutes, includes songs from Springsteen’s 1980 album The River—which the band is currently touring to support—as well as hits like “Born To Run” and “Dancing In The Dark” and a cover of the Eagles’ “Take It Easy” in memory of Glenn Frey. You don’t have to live on the East Coast to download it, but you do have to go to the website before Tuesday night at 8 PM, when the download link will expire.
