Captain America
Who he is: Captain America, a.k.a. Steve Rogers
His power: Captain America has super strength, is more impervious to injury, and has reflexes and agility far beyond those of ordinary people. He also possesses a shield made of vibranium, the strongest and lightest metal on Earth, which can be thrown almost like a boomerang, as it’s outfitted with receptors that return it to his hand (a quality that makes other heroes wonder why it doesn’t seem to obey the laws of physics).
His story: Steve Rogers was a scrawny kid from Brooklyn just trying to serve his country in World War II. His pluck got him the attention of Dr. Abraham Erskine, who made him the test subject for a Super-Soldier Serum, but who was then killed immediately after the successful injection, leaving Rogers as the sole embodiment of the program. He used his powers to fight the war and eventually defeat the Hydra leader Red Skull, but in so doing crashed a plane into the ocean and was frozen for decades, only to be thawed out and recruited into the Avengers initiative by Nick Fury. After capturing the Tesseract and defeating Loki and the Chitauri army, Rogers discovered (during the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier) that Hydra had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D., leading him to aid in dismantling the organization (officially, anyway). He took over as leader of the Avengers, helping to defeat Ultron and training a new generation at the end of Avengers: Age Of Ultron. However, Rogers soon refused the demand to submit to Avenger control by the United Nations, and is now wanted by the U.S. government. Oops.
Played by: Chris Evans
Currently, Captain America is: At large, having rescued his fellow turncoat heroes Falcon, Ant-Man, and Hawkeye from an oceanic prison, and traveling to Wakanda to see Bucky Barnes go back into cryogenic sleep.
Where will we see him next? Uncertain, but he’ll definitely be in Avengers: Infinity War, due in 2018.
