Cardi B unloads on Trump and the government shutdown: “Our country is in a hellhole right now"
We’re in the midst of the longest government shutdown in history and, with no end in sight, the White House is on the verge of asking federal employees to head back to work without pay. This being a particularly egregious proposition, even for this administration, the unlikeliest of voices are starting to speak out. Cardi B, the ubiquitous “Bodak Yellow” rapper who recently said she’d have “motherfuckin’ punched the wig out of Trump” if he served her cold french fries, got even more candid yesterday when speaking out about the shutdown. In an Instagram video for her 40 million followers, she declared that “our country is in a hellhole right now, all for a fucking wall.”
“Hey y’all, I just wanted to remind you because it’s been a little over three weeks,” Cardi began. “Trump is now ordering — as in summoning — federal workers to go back to work without getting paid.”
Preempting the right’s favorite talking point about President Obama’s 2013 shutdown, she added, “Now, I don’t wanna hear y’all motherfuckers talking about, ‘Oh, but Obama shutdown the government for 17 days,’—Yeah, bitch! For health care. So your grandma could check her blood pressure.”
She continued, “I know a lot of you don’t care because you don’t work for the government or you probably don’t even have a job, but this shit is really fucking serious.” Echoing the words of so many citizens living under this White House, she capped things off by saying, “Bitch, I’m scared.”

Cardi’s not the first hip-hop luminary to speak out on the shutdown. Earlier this month, Snoop Dogg, no stranger to criticizing Trump, took to Instagram with a statement of his own. “All you federal government people that’s not being paid, that’s being treated fucking unfairly right now,” he said. “That’s so terrible and this punk motherfucker don’t care.”
