Cary Elwes is finally listening to all those wishes and writing a Princess Bride memoir

In news that will delight giants, miracle workers, and R.O.U.S.’s everywhere, Cary Elwes is writing a memoir about the making of The Princess Bride. Titled As You Wish: Tales From The Princess Bride, the book will be published in fall 2014, according to the L.A. Times. Elwes, who starred as swashbuckling farmer-turned-pirate Westley in Rob Reiner’s 1987 cult classic, will co-author the book with writer Joe Layden. Reiner will contribute a foreword, and the book will contain interviews with actors Robin Wright, Billy Crystal, Wallace Shawn, Carol Kane, Christopher Guest, and Chris Sarandon, as well as William Goldman, who wrote both the original novel and the movie's screenplay.

The Princess Bride celebrated its 25th anniversary in October, and all involved turned up to speak lovingly about the film and its surprising longevity. Entertainment Weekly reunited the cast for a photoshoot and interview, while Mandy Patinkin recently described how the role of Inigo Montoya held special significance for him. In a press release for his memoir, Elwes echoed those sentiments, saying, “It was a joy to work on such a magical film with an amazing cast of talented actors and friends. It will be great fun to revisit The Princess Bride and to share my fond memories of the unforgettable experience we all had.” (Hopefully the first sentence of the book will be “Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.")
