CBS cleans house, cancels Ghost Whisperer and The New Adventures Of Old Christine
Making room for its influx of all-new shows about corpses and the people who stand around arguing about those corpses, CBS has increased its own body count, handing out cancellation notices to Ghost Whisperer and—slightly more surprising—The New Adventures Of Old Christine at today’s upfronts. The “Jennifer Love Hewitt talks to dead people” paranormal drama was said to be on the bubble weeks ago despite being a solid performer in its Friday night slot, and the Julia Louis-Dreyfus comedy—despite earning a dedicated critical following and breaking the “Seinfeld curse” by earning an Emmy for Louis-Dreyfus in 2006 (an award for which she was nominated every year after)—similarly suffered when it was removed from its Two And A Half Men lead-in.
