Bands still sort of “break out” at Austin’s megalith of music conferences, South By Southwest, right? Every year there are a couple that seem to catch enough people off guard to break through the wall of aspiration and perspiration. This year it might be Hippo Campus, a band of youngsters from St. Paul, Minnesota. (That’s the Twin City that’s not Minneapolis.) They’ll be playing our Monday, March 16 night party at Red 7, which is important career milestone for any band, and they’ve just signed to Grand Jury Records, home of Twin Peaks. And now we’ve got an exclusive look at the band’s spooky-yet-uplifting new video for “Souls,” which you’re sure to enjoy if you also enjoy Vampire Weekend or Foals (or both!). Check it out now, so you can finally be the first at something besides a comment! The band’s one and only release so far is an EP called Bashful Creatures, which was produced by Low’s Alan Sparhawk. Hippo Campus will be on tour with The Mowgli’s and Fences for much of this Spring, too; dates are below the video.
