CNN teams with Jubilee to surround James Talarico

The YouTube channel famous for its videos of groups of people interrogating one with a fetish for debate is heading to the big time.

CNN teams with Jubilee to surround James Talarico

CNN plans on overwhelming the Texas senatorial candidate colloquially known as Tala-freako, and they’re getting a little help from one of YouTube’s most prominent “Debate me, bro” accounts. Earlier today, CNN announced a partnership with Jubilee, the makers of the “Surrounded” video series, in which twenty absolute maniacs argue why collecting Funko-Pops is praxis against a professor of Marxist theory, for a Town Hall with James Talarico. This is partly the fault of Talarico’s opponent, Ken Paxton, who has declined to debate Talarico, though an invitation has been extended to him as well. In the meantime, the Town Hall will operate like many CNN Town Halls before it, with host Erin Burnett taking questions from an audience of Democrats, Republicans, and Republicans who like to call themselves “Independents.” The main difference is that CNN will receive a coveted spot on Jubilee’s YouTube channel sometime after the debate airs. In a statement, CNN said the partnership between the two media organizations aimed to foster “open dialogue, creating a space for direct conversations, and presenting the facts so voters can make their own informed decisions.”

Jubilee’s rage-bait clips have been a hot commodity on YouTube for some time now. In recent years, millions have turned to Jubilee for at least one second to watch the late Charlie Kirk argue with 25 woke students. Jubilee has since invited other members of the hard-right media apparatus, like Ben Shapiro, Jordan Peterson, Candace Owens, and Michael Knowles, to broadcast their hateful beliefs while being shouted at by 20 or so liberals. Before landing on “Surrounded,” Jubilee ran the gamut of other one-versus-many ideas, including the series “Odd Man Out,” where six gay men out one straight man and six Swifties suss out one Taylor hater. The liberal versus conservative dichotomy took off during the 2024 election, when the organization realized that platforming social media’s loudest and most insane far-right whackos is a quick way to get lodged in YouTube’s manosphere-ready algorithm.

The debate will air on CNN on October 14 at 8 P.M. Eastern.
