Cyclops
Who he is: Cyclops, a.k.a. Scott Summers
His powers: Cyclops shoots a devastating blast of red energy from his eyes if he opens them without protective eyewear.
His story: Cyclops is just a regular high school student with eyes of mass destruction when he’s hunted by Sabretooth and captured by Col. William Stryker in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He’d be dead if Wolverine didn’t set him free, and Scott probably wouldn’t be such an asshole to Logan in X-Men if he knew the part he played in his rescue. The adult Scott is threatened by Wolverine flirting with his girlfriend, Jean Grey, but he has to put his feelings to the side when Wolverine joins the X-Men to stop Magneto, who plans to kill an assembly of world leaders. Cyclops is captured by Stryker again in X2 and forced to fight Jean when he’s exposed to a mind-control serum, and Jean’s death at the end of the film hits him extra hard because he spent their precious last moments together trying to kill her. Scott returns to the site of Jean’s death in X-Men: The Last Stand, where he witnesses her resurrection as The Phoenix, an extremely powerful alternate personality. The two lovers reconnect briefly, but then The Phoenix kills Scott off screen for no particular reason.
The new timeline created by X-Men: Days Of Future Past erases Cyclops’ death in the present and gives him a new origin free of Sabretooth and Stryker in X-Men: Apocalypse. When his powers manifest, Scott is taken to Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters by his older brother, Alex, a.k.a. the former X-Man Havok, to learn how to live with and ideally one day control his ability. His initially antagonistic relationship with Jean Grey brightens up when he gets new glasses that allow him to see how pretty she is, and the two of them team up with Nightcrawler to save their kidnapped teachers from Stryker’s base. This act of bravery shows that they’re ready to become the new class of X-Men, and Cyclops fights with his new schoolmates to take down the threat of Apocalypse.
Played by: Tim Pocock (young) in X-Men Origins: Wolverine; Tye Sheridan (young) in X-Men: Apocalypse; James Marsden (adult) in X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days Of Future Past.
Currently, Cyclops is: At Xavier’s School in both the past and present.
Where will we see him next? Cyclops isn’t confirmed for any future appearances in the XMU, but he’ll most likely appear in the planned X-sequel rumored to take place in the ’90s.
