Disney is running its D23 self-celebration down in Anaheim this weekend, where it’s been treating its assembled fans to treats like the new trailer for Disney+ series VisionQuest. And while the tease the company rolled out for this December’s Avengers: Doomsday wasn’t quite as fresh—it is, by all accounts, the same trailer that was deployed at Comic-Con earlier this summer, and then leaked online this weekend—it does give us the best look we’ve gotten so far at the film’s antagonist, Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor Von Doom.
Who gets quite a bit of build-up from Fantastic Four star Vanessa Kirby, as she lays out the lightest traces of his backstory over footage of folks like Ian McKellan, Channing Tatum, Chris Evans, and more, all looking very worried. (Hey, Shang-Chi! Been a minute!) From there, we get some very angry conversations with Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic, while Downey and his new accent accuse our heroes of living “stolen lives.” A quick shot of Kit Connors as Cyclops then leads into a further version of that shot from the original full trailer where Thor gets the crap kicked out of him again to prove that this new villain really is that tough, just like in Avengers: Endgame. But rather than cut to the already-spent Evans reveal, this new promo manages to then deploy a genuine jaw-dropping image: Doom using his powers to resurrect a bunch of Sentinels, which probably isn’t good new for human or mutantkind.
Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18; Disney put out a fresh cast list with the new trailer, meaning we now know the film will star (deep breath) Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Hayley Atwell, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Mabel Cadena, with Tenoch Huerta Mejia.
