Dan Aykroyd's latest bizarre belief is that Bill Murray would ever be in a Ghostbusters 3

Dan Aykroyd has put his name behind a lot of, let’s say, out there ideas over the years—many of the revolving around crystal skulls, and the life-giving powers and vodka contained within—but none are more bizarre than his continued, dogged, and utterly scientifically unfounded belief that there will ever be a Ghostbusters 3, and that Bill Murray could ever be convinced to get within a mile of it if there was. Aykroyd re-iterated those comments recently to fellow Dan Rather on his AXS TV show The Big Interview, because hey, what else is Dan Aykroyd going to do with his time?

As he has so many times before, Aykroyd stated that a script for a potential direct follow-up to 1989's Ghostbusters II is “being written right now,” and that he believes there’s “a possibility” that the remaining three original Ghostbusters, minus the late Harold Ramis, might reunite for it. “I think Billy will come,” Aykroyd loudly assured himself. “The story’s so good.”

To be fair, Murray did lend a bit of his precious golfing-and-randomly-fucking-with-strangers time to the 2016 Ghostbusters movie, as did Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson. (Ramis, who died in 2014, appeared in statue form.) Still, it’s hard to imagine that the endlessly re-inventive Murray would ever willingly retread old ground in quite such an openly moldy fashion as a full-on Ghostbusters reunion, even if he does get his previously stated wish and get to die and come back as a ghost.

Honestly, we’re pretty sure that Dan Aykroyd is going to keep saying this stuff from now until he, too, gives up the ghost, keeping the barest minimum of hope alive for Sony and its still technically-intact Ghost Corps, despite the tepid box office response to the 2016 movie. But that doesn’t mean Murray’s going to play along; guy’s got zombies to deal with anyway these days, instead.
