Daniel Day-Lewis will play Abraham Lincoln for Steven Spielberg

Although Steven Spielberg has been promising to make an Abraham Lincoln biopic for years now, the delay has led many to believe he’ll never actually do it—chief among them Liam Neeson, who gave up on the project over the summer, saying the film was now past his “sell-by date.” Fortunately for Spielberg, he’s found some small consolation in booking Daniel Day-Lewis, the most acclaimed actor in the fucking world, to take Neeson’s place.

According to a press release issued today by DreamWorks, Day-Lewis has officially signed on to play the 16th president and theater enthusiast in a production that will reportedly begin next fall, and hopefully it will see release the following year, around the same time as Tim Burton’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter so someone can do a “He’s hot, he’s sexy, and he’s dead” Lincoln trend piece. Anyway, There Will Be Blood-Lincoln mash-ups start now. (“Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth upon this continent a new milkshake….”)
