Here’s some news that may induce either eyerolls or jubilation depending on how you feel about the phrase “blessed be the fruit.” D’Arcy Carden has officially joined the cast of The Handmaid’s Tale for its upcoming sixth and final season. The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which clarifies that the show hasn’t revealed which side of the final battle Carden will be on. Either way, she’s already filmed her part.

The Handmaid’s Tale released the first teaser for its final season earlier this week. You’d be forgiven for forgetting the dystopian series was still unconcluded; it premiered around the start of Trump’s first term and hasn’t aired a new episode since 2022. If you thought people were just talking about the show again as a response to its parallels with our current government, the answer is… not no. The teaser, which promises red-cloaked revolution, is leaning right into what a scared populace would most want to hear. “To mark us, they put us in red—the color of blood,” Elisabeth Moss’ June says in the clip. “They forgot that it’s also the color of rage.” The season’s synopsis also promises that it will highlight “the importance of hope, courage, solidarity, and resilience in the pursuit of justice and freedom.”

If diving into a very-similar-but-not-actually-real crisis sounds comforting to you (and there are many, many people who fall into the category), Hulu has another “treat” in the hopper, be that as it may. The streamer is currently working on an adaptation of Margaret Atwood‘s sequel novel, The Testaments, which will star Ann Dowd and Chase Infiniti. For now, this iteration of The Handmaid’s Tale is set to begin its final installment April 8, and for better or worse, D’Arcy Carden will be a part of it.
