Das Racist kicked out of England
Arty Brooklyn rap group Das Racist—made up of two Wesleyan graduates who, if you're asking, have described themselves as “proto-postworld pop”—was detained at the UK’s Gatwick Airport and then deported to Sweden yesterday. According to a message posted on the duo’s official website, members Himanshu Suri and Victor Vazquez were stopped due to “some sticklerism on the part of UK Customs regarding paperwork." Naturally, they’ve blamed the whole thing on the fact that the British “govvy doesn’t like us! Because of our POLITICAL VIEWS!”
Indeed, it’s possible that the UK didn’t appreciate Suri’s recent tongue-in-cheek wish to “start dressing more like a British colonialist in a red coat and maybe lighten my skin with that money.” But it’s more likely the UK fear the firebrands behind “Combination Pizza Hut And Taco Bell” applying their knack for sharp consumerist critique to their own foodstuffs—which they then proceeded to do by relating how they were "held in a room with books, prayer rug and compass, television and remote, and these horrible sandwiches (cheese and onion, egg and cress, etc.). Also, “digestive biscuits’ along with Walker’s crisps (Salt & Vinegar, Salt).” British cuisine, you just got Das Racisted.
