Johnny Depp is boarding another ship, but he looks nothing like Captain Jack Sparrow. In fact, he barely looks like himself in a first look photo for Day Drinker, the Marc Webb-directed film he’s leading for Lionsgate.

Day Drinker reunites Depp with his Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder On The Orient Express co-star, Penélope Cruz. Madelyn Cline also stars as a private-yacht bartender who encounters Depp’s character, described as a “mysterious, onboard guest” on the ship. “They soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure (Cruz) and connected in ways no one saw coming,” per the film’s official synopsis. Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto, and Anika Boyle also star.

Production on the film reportedly started in Spain today, per IndieWire. “I’m excited to be starting production with Johnny, Madelyn, Penelope, and this incredible cast,” Webb said in a statement. “We’re in a beautiful location with a fantastic crew and a thrilling, ferocious story to tell. This is gonna be fun.”

Webb has already had a busy year. He also helmed Disney’s rotten apple Snow White remake, which wasn’t exactly free from controversy itself. As for Depp, this will be the actor’s first major U.S. studio project since the conclusion of his infamous trial with ex-wife Amber Heard in 2022. He also recently appeared in French-language film Jeanne Du Barry, and will star as Satan (yes, that’s real) in Terry Gilliam’s The Carnival At The End Of Days alongside Jason Momoa, Jeff Bridges, and Adam Driver.
