Disney launches new online Muppets series
Throughout the entire existence of The Muppets, the balcony-bound hecklers Statler and Waldorf have been their harshest critics. The pair are always ready to respond to some cheesy Fozzie Bear joke or uninspired comedy routine with a perfectly timed blast of sweet, sweet snark. Of course, Statler and Waldorf still end up in the audience of whatever The Muppets do, so they clearly love the performers on some level. Now, though, The Muppets are opening themselves up to even harsher critics: YouTube commenters.
As reported by Variety, Disney has announced that it’s launching a new digital Muppets series to promote the DVD/Blu-ray release of Muppets Most Wanted. The series is called Disney Drive-On With The Muppets, and it will focus on behind-the-scenes shenanigans with some of the classic Muppets that everyone loves, and also Walter and Pepe The King Prawn. The premiere focuses on The Muppets’ Walter as he tries to find what movie-related job he’s good at, and it even features an appearance from that hot, young actor all of the kids are crazy about these days: North By Northwest’s Martin Landau! You can see the first episode on YouTube (or below), and new ones will be added to the Disney Movies Anywhere app every Friday.
