Every generation gets the “Run The World (Girls)” it deserves. Last night, K-pop idol Jennie and recent Grammy-winning artist Doechii made a strong case for Gen Z’s to be “ExtraL,” the duo’s high-octane new collab. The bona fides are right there in the intro. “Do my, do my ladies run this, ladies run this,” Jennie chants as soon as the track starts to play. The nachos may be reheated (as the kids like to say), but they still taste great.

“ExtraL” is the third single from Blackpink singer Jennie’s forthcoming solo debut, Ruby. The song is a nice blend of her pop expertise and Doechii’s ever-confident rap. The pair also released a power-suited music video to go along with the song, which features a shot of them dancing in very pointy stilettos atop a man’s bald head.

Previously released singles from Ruby include solo track “Mantra” and “Love Hangover” featuring Dominic Fike. The album is quite a star-studded affair. Childish Gambino, Dua Lipa, FKJ, and Kali Uchis will appear on future songs as well. The full album releases March 7.

Jennie’s fellow Blackpink stars are also having a great year. Rosé recently released the Billboard-charting hit “APT.” with Bruno Mars, and Lisa is making her acting debut in season three of The White Lotus. In July, the group will hit the road for a nine-city international tour

Doechii has also had an amazing run recently. Her 2024 project Alligator Bites Never Heal won Best Rap Album at this year’s Grammy Awards, making her just the third woman to ever receive the honor. “I know that there is some Black girl out there—so many Black women out there—that are watching me right now, and I want to tell you, you can do it,” she said in her acceptance speech. “Anything is possible.”
