Donald Trump feasts on McDonald’s, and the internet springs into action

Donald Trump knew exactly how to celebrate on Thursday when he finally reached the magic number of 1,237 delegates he needed to secure the GOP nomination: a celebratory meal of a Big Mac, fries, and a Diet Coke aboard his private plane. Wait, didn’t he denounce Diet Coke on Twitter as the beverage of delusional fatsos? Sure, but whatever. This was a moment he proudly shared with his 1.6 million Instagram followers anyway, Diet Coke bottle and all. It’s a strikingly odd image. America’s potential next president appears lost in thought as he hunches over his sad, solitary, cheap meal. If it’s an attempt at folksy populism, Trump seems spectacularly uncomfortable. The Reddit community quickly sensed a comedic opportunity here, and a satirical feeding frenzy quickly arose on the r/photoshopbattles subreddit.

One user responded by replacing Trump with the cartoon world’s most beloved evil plutocrat, clutching a snifter of Diet Coke in his bony, clawlike hand.

Another gave the real estate mogul a far more sinister meal, one likely to alienate a large percentage of the electorate.

And still another used the photograph as the jumping-off point for some keen, subtle political satire.

One user, TheSyntaxExtra, even chose to insert Trump’s image into an iconic work of 20th-century American art. Here, at least, the presumptive Republican nominee is not so alone in his misery.
