Following the death of beloved fantasy author Sir Terry Pratchett, British charity The Research Institute For The Care Of Older People (RICE—the “E” originally stood for elderly, but has since been changed) has received over £40,000 in donations (roughly $60,000) in the author’s name. RICE specializes in researching both the diagnosis and treatment of dementia; Pratchett, who died of natural causes at age 66 after struggling with dementia for several years, had been treated at the Institute since 2008.
