DreamWorks already working on sequel to big-ass battlin' robot movie Real Steel
So confident is DreamWorks in its upcoming big-ass battlin’ robots movie Real Steel that they’ve already commissioned screenwriter John Gatins to get working on a sequel—an unusual move that speaks to the confidence the studio has in the film after it performed well in test screenings. And why shouldn’t it? It’s a movie that combines some of America’s favorite things—boxing matches, father-son redemption arcs, Hugh Jackman shouting—and runs them all through the filter of robots, a growing pop-culture obsession soon to be on par with aliens, vampires, and zombies. There’s obviously no word on what shape Real Steel 2: Realer And Steelier (probably not the actual title) will take, considering the first, Shawn Levy-directed Real Steel won’t even be released until October 7. But if it’s following the Rocky arc, expect to see Jackman’s giant robot boxer drawn back into the ring after his robot wife delivers their robot baby and slips into a robot coma.
