Duster has made strange bedfellows out of Jim (Josh Holloway) and Nina (Rachel Hilson). Working for the FBI, Nina has more or less blackmailed Jim into informing on his boss Saxton (Keith David). As the season has progressed, the duo have gotten closer to uncovering whether Saxton was behind the death of Jim’s brother, but it hasn’t made them friends. “I ain’t taking a bullet for you if you blow this,” Jim warns her in a promo for the next episode, which airs Thursday, June 19. “Back at ya,” Nina snarks.

Unfortunately for this unlikely pair, bullets will definitely be flying as they infiltrate Saxton’s meeting with the Russians. In an exclusive clip shared with The A.V. Club, Jim and Nina are backed into a corner, and it looks like Jim has already sustained an injury. But he still has time for a little cinematic debate. “You ever see Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid?” he asks. “Yeah. They die at the end,” Nina says as gunfire goes off in the background. “They didn’t die, it was a freeze frame,” Jim argues. “Exactly, right when every fucking gun in the town unloads on them!” Nina replies. Even though Jim contends “we never see” the death, she’s quite certain of the conclusion. Unfortunately, she has no choice but to be the Newman to Jim’s Redford to even have a chance of making it out alive. The clip doesn’t exactly end on a freeze frame, but we won’t know if they survive until the episode airs.

Hopefully they do (Jim seems to have an uncanny knack for getting out of scrapes), because there are still two more episodes left of the season after Thursday’s installment. Elsewhere in Duster, Saxton’s plot with the Russians seems tied up in political conspiracy (the audience was treated to a pretty crazy CGI Richard Nixon in the previous episode) and one of Nina’s fellow agents appears to be crooked. Meanwhile, Izzy (Camille Guaty) is organizing her fellow women within the truckers’ union. But doing so will cause trouble for the interim union president Bob Temple (Kevin Chamberlin), which in turn will put her in Saxton’s crosshairs. Jim definitely won’t be happy if Saxton targets yet another person he cares about! We’re not at the finish line yet, but we can expect there will be a few more impeccable car chases before we get there.
