DVD/BD Release List – 1/4/11

The action is starting to pick up here on the list, with a few notable titles to kick off the new year. At the top of the list: Catfish, the controversial documentary about a group of New York artists who investigate the possibility that they’ve been hoaxed by a fan. And while you’re checking out a non-fiction film that may not be entirely on the up-and-up, you may want to stay in the same general zone and try The Last Exorcism, a clever faux-doc horror flick about a con artist preacher whose plans to come clean go awry when he encounters a girl who may actually be possessed. And while you’re enjoying some trashy genre fare, why not go even trashier with Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, an exploitation throwback that’s both purposefully silly and badass. Lastly, though this has no connection to any of the above movies, the animated version of The Ricky Gervais Show is very funny, using the limitless possibilities of cartoons to illustrate the deadpan flights of fancy of Gervais’ crackpot associate Karl Pilkington. Catch up now before the second season begins.
