DVD/BD Release List – 12/07/10
It was awfully nice of Criterion to time the release of the Blu-ray of Guillermo del Toro’s debut feature Cronos to promote our interview with the Mexican horror/fantasy auteur. As a way of saying thanks, how about picking up a copy? This is also a big week for documentaries, top-lined by Restrepo, the harrowing you-are-there documentary about an army unit stationed in one of the most dangerous regions of Afghanistan. Also worth a look: the quirky Big River Man, a doc about boozy Slovenian endurance swimmer Martin Strel; and the big box-set of ESPN’s 30 For 30’s first fifteen episodes, including some of the sharpest examples of documentary filmmaking this year. Sticking with the world of TV, this week also sees the release of the second season of Elvis Costello’s interview/performance series Spectacle, which includes his epic round with Bruce Springsteen. Lastly, I’m sure we don’t need to tell you that Inception comes out today because we already did… in your dreams!
