Elvis Depressedly makes lo-fi pop for the masses on New Alhambra
The duo of Mat Cothran and Delaney Mills have built a following for their band, Elvis Depressedly, based on word of mouth. Through a series of cassette and digital releases, the pair caught the attention of Run For Cover Records, and on May 12 the label will release the band’s sophomore album New Alhambra. The record builds on the band’s lo-fi aesthetic which, at its most conventional, recalls Elliott Smith and his despondent pop songs. The A.V. Club is streaming all of New Alhambra ahead of its release date next week, while pre-orders for the album can still be had through Run For Cover’s store.
