The ad, which went online today, sees former Entourage star Piven pulling up to Paul’s star-packed pad looking for former co-star Adrian Grenier. And while Piven’s in full Ari Gold jackass mode (calling the Black bouncer “Kimbo Slice” while introducing himself as “Ted Lasshole,” and threatening to tell daddy on basketballing guests Lonzo and LiAngelo Ball for making fun of him), neither he nor Grenier are technically playing their Entourage characters. Series creator Doug Ellin had no involvement in the ad for Paul’s undoubtedly on-the-level Betr app, but the actors are clearly riffing (in a legally distinct manner) on their previous onscreen dynamic, with the motormouthed Piven unsuccessfully pitching a vacant-looking Grenier a new action movie for them to star in.
But before then, it’s essentially an mini-Entourage episode, with Piven trading “just kiddin’, bro” jabs with recently clobbered boxing dilettante Paul at a raucous house party before his come on to Grenier to team up as a thief and dirty cop in a no-doubt direct-to-streaming thriller is derailed by even crasser commercial considerations.
Piven, who recently posted a picture of the he and Grenier backstage at one of Piven’s stand-up shows, has been keeping a relatively low profile since multiple women accused the actor of sexual assault and harassment in 2018, with former Entourage costar Debi Mazar last week calling out the “toxic,” “testosterone-fueled” set. Controversial YouTuber Paul, meanwhile, faced his own sexual assault allegations in 2021.
