Ethan Hawke joins Total Recall remake as someone, probably a character
As the major casting is nearly all sewn up on Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake and the chance of another surprise welcome addition like Bryan Cranston fades in favor of more obvious choices like Wiseman’s own wife, what can producers do to sustain advance interest in the project? Maybe leak news of a cameo by Ethan Hawke, of all people, who will turn up in the Colin Farrell-starring sci-fi film doing… well, something. The Hollywood Reporter says that the role is being “kept secret and it is cameo in nature.” Though obviously, not so secret that it doesn’t merit revealing just to wring another Total Recall headline out of us.
Anyway, we’ve already been told that this new adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” diverges from the Schwarzenegger version, completely ditching the Mars plotline and focusing instead on a looming battle between the nation-states of Euromerica and New Shanghai, so any speculation that Hawke will cameo as, say, Kuato, an EthanHawke-Cab, or the thrice-titted woman are fun, but way off. Perhaps he will play himself as the leader of New Shanghai, whose Utopian society is based entirely on the music of Hey That’s My Bike. <—- Look, a Hey That’s My Bike reference. How long has it been since you’ve seen one of those?
