Exclusive Marvel preview: Witness the final battle of Captain Marvel And The Carol Corps

After three years of writing Carol Danvers and elevating her to a more prominent role in the Marvel Universe, Kelly Sue DeConnick is saying goodbye to the character in next week’s Captain Marvel And The Carol Corps #4. She’s going out with a bang, though, pitting Carol and her teammates against God Emperor Doom’s army of Thors for the final issue of this Secret Wars tie-in. Joined by co-writer Kelly Thompson and artist Laura Braga, DeConnick is ending her run with a story about the strength of sisterhood. It’s appropriate that this issue is both written and drawn by women, a rare occurrence in superhero comics.

Braga fills in for main artist David Lopez for this finale, but the transition between creators is very smooth. They both have similarly clean, detailed art styles, and Lee Loughridge’s coloring maintains visual consistency across the miniseries. Braga’s artwork has a lot of power, and the first page of this preview shows an intense Carol Corps primed for battle. Braga’s art on books like Superior Iron Man and Witchblade has showcased her strong action storytelling muscles, and they’ll get plenty of exercise as the Corps faces off against the Asgardian might of the Thors.
