In the Faces Of Death remake, the attention economy is producing copies on the original Faces Of Death clips.

Barbie Ferreira is trying to figure out how much of this red band Faces Of Death trailer is real

There have been multiple studies and at least one lawsuit over the effects that being an internet content moderator can have on your mental health. Based on the new trailer for Faces Of Death, it’s not hard to see why. Barbie Ferreira plays a content moderator whose job is to determine whether various disgusting clips uploaded to some video sharing platform are real, and whether or not they need to be flagged and removed. Of course, even she has a hard time telling, and regardless of the clips’ authenticity, they’re still pretty upsetting.

Faces Of Death is based on the John Alan Schwartz film of the same name from 1978. That film is presented as a documentary with mostly fake but some real footage. This new remake takes on an additional meta layer as some of the videos Ferreira’s character has to comb through are reenactments of the original videos from the 1978 version. We’ve landed on a pretty high concept for what started as alleged snuff films.

How To Blow Up A Pipeline‘s Daniel Goldhaber directs the new Faces Of Death. Beside Ferreira, the film stars Dacre Montgomery, Josie Totah, Aaron Holliday, Jermaine Fowler, and Charli xcx. Faces Of Death opens on April 10.
