The FCC would like broadcasters to stand and "Pledge America" this year

As part of his long-standing, ideologically driven commitment to silencing critics, ignoring history, and promoting American values, FCC chair Brendan Carr is asking broadcasters to “Pledge America” this year. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Carr launched a “voluntary effort” to promote so-called American values—which we suppose includes curbing free speech, strong-arming private business, and advancing Christian nationalism—to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary this year. Carr encourages networks to ignore America’s history of imperialism, genocide, and slavery “by airing patriotic, pro-America content that celebrates the American journey and inspires its citizens by highlighting the historic accomplishments of this great nation from our founding through the Trump Administration today.” Such ideas Carr batted around include producing segments at historic sites, beginning broadcast days with the “Star Spangled Banner” and/or the Pledge of Allegiance, and providing American history segments that are likely sanitized for the delicate sensibilities of the Project 2025 architects. No pressure, broadcasters. We’re sure that your participation will have no impact on the FCC’s decision to investigate, regulate, or block any upcoming licenses or mergers and acquisitions that may or may not be on the docket.
