The FCC would like broadcasters to stand and "Pledge America" this year

The adamantly non-partisan FCC is asking broadcasters to pledge allegiance to the United States of America via patriotic content in celebration of America's 250th anniversary.

As part of his long-standing, ideologically driven commitment to silencing critics, ignoring history, and promoting American values, FCC chair Brendan Carr is asking broadcasters to “Pledge America” this year. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Carr launched a “voluntary effort” to promote so-called American values—which we suppose includes curbing free speech, strong-arming private business, and advancing Christian nationalism—to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary this year. Carr encourages networks to ignore America’s history of imperialism, genocide, and slavery “by airing patriotic, pro-America content that celebrates the American journey and inspires its citizens by highlighting the historic accomplishments of this great nation from our founding through the Trump Administration today.” Such ideas Carr batted around include producing segments at historic sites, beginning broadcast days with the “Star Spangled Banner” and/or the Pledge of Allegiance, and providing American history segments that are likely sanitized for the delicate sensibilities of the Project 2025 architects. No pressure, broadcasters. We’re sure that your participation will have no impact on the FCC’s decision to investigate, regulate, or block any upcoming licenses or mergers and acquisitions that may or may not be on the docket.

“Broadcasters are uniquely positioned to help address these concerning developments by providing programming that celebrates the remarkable story of American Independence while also tailoring it to the specific needs of their local communities, in furtherance of their public interest obligations,” Carr said. “I believe in the greatness of our country. And I look forward to broadcasters showcasing its inspiring history by taking the Pledge and fulfilling their public interest mandate to serve the needs and interests of their local communities as America’s 250th birthday celebration marches on.”

America 250 already has a jam-packed schedule of patriotic events, including a UFC fight on the White House lawn. Organized by UFC CEO “the great Dana White,” as President Trump called the man who was filmed slapping his wife across the face in 2023, the UFC event is expected to cost more than $21 million. In other pro-American content coming out of UFC, fighter Sean Strickland spent the UFC Media Day calling Bad Bunny the F-slur and suggesting Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano fight “half naked,” because Carano is “like super conservative. She was hot, you know. I was like a kid when she fought. I may have jerked off to her once or twice back in the day.” Strickland then stated that “no one gives a fuck about women’s sports” and adding, “There’s nothing wrong with women. They do great things. They cook, they clean.” It’s the kind of speech that Carr seems totally fine with because he’s spending all his time “not technically regulating” equal-time violations by The View and The Late Show. In the words of Lee Greenwood, “God bless the U.S.A.”
