In the full trailer for Ryan Murphy’s latest anthology series, Feud: Bette And Joan, Olivia de Havilland (Catherine Zeta-Jones) calmly explains: “Feuds are never about hate. Feuds are about pain.” That sounds like it could be thesis of the show, which in its first season aims to chart the battle between What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? stars Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) and Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange). This look at the project introduces viewers to the egos involved, and how they were manipulated by the likes of director Robert Aldrich (Alfred Molina) and Warner Bros.’s Jack Warner (Stanley Tucci).
And, by the way, de Havilland should know what she’s talking about. She had legendary animosity with her sister, Joan Fontaine, but that’s for a later season perhaps. The Feud starts on FX March 5.
