Co-starring Backrooms' Renate Reinsve, director Cristian Mungiu's latest is a pitch-black family drama, opening this fall.

Sebastian Stan is a bald, potentially bad dad in the trailer for Palme d'Or winner Fjord

Shedding his Donald Trump wig and Bucky Barnes locks, Sebastian Stan returns to the screen as we’ve never seen him before: Bald. In Fjord, director Cristian Mungiu’s latest film, Stan plays Mihai, the Gheorghjiu family’s domineering patriarch. At the behest of Mihai’s wife, Lisbet (Stan’s A Different Man co-star Renate Reinsve), the family of seven moves to her hometown, a remote coastal village in Norway. But Mihai’s devout Romanian beliefs don’t jibe with neighbors. After growing close with the family nearby, Mihai becomes the subject of scrutiny for the community, leading to child endangerment allegations that put them on the stand.

Directed by Cristian Mungiu, Fjord won this year’s Palme d’Or, marking the filmmaker’s second prestigious golden leaf, becoming one of 10 filmmakers, including Francis Ford Coppola, Michael Haneke, and Ruben Östlund, to double up on commemorative plants. He didn’t have to go through all that trouble to make Fjord look compelling. Stan’s head is already doing the heavy lifting.

Fjord opens in the U.S. on October 9.
