The Space Race is almost over—again. Apple TV announced this morning that For All Mankind, its alternative history series that features a still-intact Soviet Union and a Space Race that extends well into the 2010s, will get one more season, making its sixth season its final one. The fifth season of the show is set to premiere on Apple TV on Friday, March 27, and will continue through May 29.
“Getting to explore the For All Mankind universe over six seasons has been an amazing privilege, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to finish the story the way we’ve always hoped,” series creators Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi said in a press statement. “We’re incredibly proud of what this series has become, and grateful to Apple TV and Sony Pictures Television for helping us see it through to its final chapter.”
The upcoming fifth season of For All Mankind will kick off in the 2010s. “Happy Valley has grown into a thriving colony with thousands of residents and a base for new missions that will take us even further into the solar system,” reads a synopsis from Apple. “But with the nations of Earth now demanding law and order on the Red Planet, friction continues to build between the people who live on Mars and their former home.” Given the rate of time in the series, it seems like the sixth season could feasibly make it to the present day. For All Mankind will also launch a Russia-set spin-off, Star City, timed to the season five finale.
