FX has also announced an October premiere date for the return of its thrilling neo-noir comedy

In the current TV landscape, getting a second season of any show you’ve invested in is a bit of a relief, but being able to watch it on an annual basis? Now that’s a win. So, here’s some good news: FX confirmed that The Lowdown, which debuted last fall, will return for season two in a timely fashion this October. 

Created by Reservation Dogs‘ Sterlin Harjo, this neo-noir crime comedy follows self-proclaimed “truth-storian” Lee Raybon (Ethan Hawke), who is actually a rare bookstore owner and a citizen journalist. His investigation into the corruption of one of Tulsa’s big-time political families, the Washbergs, endangers and unravels his life. 

In season two, Lee earns an award for his expose published in The Heartland Press. Unable to process that things are going well for him, he turns to self-medication and unwittingly earns the attention of a brash public defender, Ginger (Betty Gilpin). As their interests align, the two of them team up on a new case to find Ginger’s client, who went missing from a prison. 

The ensemble also features Keith David, Rafael Casal, Kaniehtiio Horn, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Tommy Lee Jones joins the cast as Lee’s father. And hopefully, season one guest star Peter Dinklage will find his way back as well. 

The Lowdown‘s second season will premiere on FX on October 14, with the episode streaming on Hulu the next day. Check out the first look at Jones in the show below:
