Since its reformation last year, Spraynard has been hard at work on a new album, its first for Jade Tree Records. Though that full-length is still a ways off, on May 19 Jade Tree will release the “Bench” 7-inch, featuring both the titular song that’s included on the band’s forthcoming album and a John Crodian cover exclusive to the single. The A.V. Club is premiering “Bench” ahead of that 7-inch release, and the track makes good on vocalist-guitarist Pat Graham’s promise that Spraynard’s new material would be a step away from its early pop-punk days. Far more plaintive than its odes to skateboarding, “Bench” marks the next step in the trio’s evolution.
