Get Involved, Internet: Help Kickstart an official Ghostbusters board game

While the Ghostbusters Headquarters wasn’t selected for a recent fan-made Lego contest, others are still determined to finally bring Ghostbusters merchandise to the masses. Just a few weeks after Paul Feig announced the cast of his all-female remake of the ’80s classic, Cryptozoic Entertainment has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Ghostbusters: The Board Game, an officially licensed game based on Dan Schoening’s Ghostbusters comic book artwork. The game allows one to four players to bust ghosts and seal the gates to the Spirit World while keeping track of intricate game play and whipping out their terrible Bill Murray impressions.

For a rather steep $80, backers will get the basic game, while a $125 donation buys a deluxe version. If the project reaches its $250,000 goal before March 12 (and it almost certainly will, given that it’s already raised more than $150,000 in its first day), backers should have those games in hand by October 2015.

Thanks to interchangeable options and dice, the game will be different each time it’s played, and can be adjusted for various skill levels. Cryptozoic estimates game play will take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, although that presumably doesn’t include the time it will take for tabletop newbies to figure out the massively complicated rules, which include 47 plastic mini figures, 43 tokens, six dice, a “PKE Meter,” and 10 double-sided game board tiles. Thankfully, those mini figures include Ghostbusters Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore along with baddies Slimer, Indulnas, and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, which means frustrated players can easily abandon the game and just act out the movie instead. Just don’t cross the streams while you do.
