Go behind the scenes of First Man—and win a Blu-ray while you're at it
It’s lonely out there in space. That’s where you’ll find us, beating the drum for First Man, Damien Chazelle’s “they don’t make ‘em like that anymore” biographical drama starring Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong and our No. 8 film of 2018. Although the film did win a Golden Globe for Best Original Score at Sunday’s ceremony, we’d love to see more love for it come Oscar nominations time—and in case any Academy voters are reading this, we’ve got an exclusive clip from the DVD/Blu-ray extras for First Man detailing how the effects team built an LED wall designed to bring a feeling of verisimilitude to the film’s anxiety-inducing launch scenes.
Not only that, but we’re giving 10 copies of First Man on Blu-ray in order to spread the word about what our own A.A. Dowd calls “a nitty-gritty procedural that treats the NASA odyssey as a window into Armstrong’s unknowable mind, an inner space as mysterious as the outer one he blasts himself into.” If that sounds intriguing, just email us at [email protected] with the subject line “One Giant Leap” and your full U.S. mailing address (sorry, no P.O. boxes) by 2:30 p.m. CT tomorrow, Wednesday, January 9. That’s when we’ll pick winners, and inform them by email later that day.
First Man hits digital today, and DVD and Blu-ray on January 22.
