Grant Ward
Who he is: Grant Ward
His power: No superpowers, but years of training have turned him into one of the best agents S.H.I.E.L.D. has ever had.
His story: One of the first team members we meet on Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Grant Ward is a troubled child, abused by his family and sent to juvenile detention after trying to burn down their home. He is then recruited by Hydra operative John Garrett, who trains him to be deep undercover in S.H.I.E.L.D., though Ward’s loyalties lie more with Garrett than Hydra. When the sinister organization brings about the destruction of S.H.I.E.L.D., Ward remains with Garrett until the latter is killed and Ward is jailed by Phil Coulson. Some months later, he escapes and joins Hydra yet again, though after some turbulent times, he attempts to become head of Hydra himself. This leads to a confrontation with Gideon Malick, one of the last Hydra leaders, and the two join forces to bring the ancient Inhuman Hive back to Earth to wipe out S.H.I.E.L.D. (and all who oppose Hydra, really). Unfortunately for Ward, he is killed by Coulson on the alien planet where Hive lives. His body is then used as a vessel for Hive—at least, until a nuclear weapon blows Hive into a million pieces in space.
Played by: Brett Dalton
Currently, Grant Ward is: Floating through space in a billion or so scattered particles, or at least his body is.
Where will we see him next? We won’t, unless he appears in a flashback—or, say, a virtual reality simulation.
