Green Day is releasing a "handbook for the rebellious everywoman"
It’s been 15 years since Green Day shocked the world with American Idiot, an album that had the guts to combine an in-your-face message about how much George W. Bush sucks with some kind of rock opera bullshit about a guy named Saint Jimmy, and since then Green Day has continued to dive headfirst into edgy political statements that aren’t really all that edgy. American Idiot was an unexpected move for the band at the time, though, and now Green Day is doing something similarly unexpected with Last Of The American Girls, an “inspiring homage and handbook for the rebellious everywoman who refuses to capitulate.” We’re not sure what that means or why the three California dudes in Green Day decided to write a handbook for rebellious everywomen, but here we are. At the very least, the book is named after a song off of 21st Century Breakdown (that has since been adapted for use in the American Idiot musical), so at least that bit checks out.
Last Of The American Girls will feature full-color illustrations from cartoonist Frank Caruso, who previously worked with Bruce Springsteen and Wilco. It’ll be available in October.
