Guided By Voices looks to the future in an exclusive debut of its new 7"

Guided By Voices wasn’t supposed to be recording new songs. But, even after deciding to dedicate 2018 exclusively to touring, in the four months since the release of its 26th album Space Gun back in March, the famously prolific group has already recorded two full-length albums. But while the band wasn’t able to stay away from the studio, its members are honoring their promise by holding their 27th album, Zeppelin Over China, until February 2019, and their 28th, Street Party, until February 2020.

And to give fans a sort of rock ‘n’ roll amuse bouche, on July 20 the band will release a 7" featuring two songs, one from each of the upcoming records. We’re debuting the A-side, one of GBV’s signature fist-pumping anthems called “You Own The Night” below; that one’s from Zeppelin Over China—which, by the way, will be a double album. (We told you these guys were prolific.) The B-side, “Your Cricket Is Rather Unique,” is from Street Party, which, as we mentioned up top, won’t be out until 2020. If Robert Pollard and company keep banking albums like this, at this rate, we’ll have GBV albums to last us through 2050 at least.

You can pre-order the “You Own The Night”/ “Your Cricket Is Rather Unique” 7"at the Rockathon Records web store, which also recently put a remastered reissue of Pollard’s out-of-print 1998 solo album Waved Out up from pre-order.
