Guillermo del Toro now developing video games too
Film director, TV show writer, budding studio mogul, ardent recycling opponent—all describe Guillermo del Toro, whose rapid cell division in the bloodstream of American entertainment also now includes video game developer. Late last week, del Toro stretched out his increasingly cramped and arthritic contract-signin’ hand to ink a multiyear deal with THQ Inc. to develop a new “dark fantasy” trilogy of video games known only as inSANE, the random capitalization of which certainly conveys a wild schism from reality. Although details are still being kept secret, del Toro said that he wanted the games to “take players to a place they have never seen before, where every single action makes them question their own senses of morality and reality.” “Oh, you mean Tijuana?” he said in his best Bob Hope voice, just before introducing Ann-Margret. The games will be developed by Volition Inc. (Red Faction, Saints Row) for a planned release in 2013. You can see a short teaser below, which suggests the game will feature tentacles, ultrasounds, and eye-gouging. Up next for del Toro: Christmas album.
